"Moonlight," "La La Land" and "Manchester by the Sea" garnered nominations Monday for the annual Golden Globe awards.
"Moonlight," a coming-of-age drama about an African-American boy growing up gay in Miami, will compete for best drama with wartime drama "Hacksaw Ridge," Australian biopic "Lion," and "Manchester by the Sea," which stars Casey Affleck as a Boston janitor overcoming inner demons.
Musical romance "La La Land" is up for best comedy or musical, along with "20th Century Women," "Deadpool," "Florence Foster Jenkins" and "Sing Street."
The nominees for best foreign language film at the annual awards are France`s "Elle" and "Divines," Germany`s "Toni Erdmann," Chile`s "Neruda" and the Iranian-French film "The Salesman."
Winners of the 74th annual awards will be announced in a ceremony in Beverly Hills hosted by US comic Jimmy Fallon on January 8. Meryl Streep will be presented with the Cecil B De Mille Lifetime Achievement award.
First awarded in 1944, the Golden Globes are presented by the 90 some members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The awards honour the best in television and film across more than 25 categories.
