Bonn, Dec 05 (deutschenews24.de/dpa) -- RB Leipzig sports director Ralf Rangnick said in an interview published Monday that his young team could win the Bundesliga title but that he isn`t looking that far ahead despite a fairytale run.
Leipzig are unbeaten league leaders, three points ahead of champions Bayern Munich, in their debut season in the top flight.
The eastern German club is not popular among many purists because of its backing by Austrian energy drinks giants Red Bull but the team has impressed despite not having big-name players.
"We are the youngest team with the least Bundesliga experience and in midfield when it comes to salaries," Rangnick told Kicker sports magazine.
He did not fully rule out the title with such a concept but that it was too early in the season to really consider such a scenario.
"We have won the points with the players we have. And I wouldn`t say it was pure luck to get the points," he said.
"We have had an outstanding start. If we manage to keep up the points average we would really be a top team. But first of all we have to achieve that, and then we take it one match at a time."
Leipzig visit Munich in the last round before the winter break on December 21, and Rangnick is also not getting carried away regarding that big game.
"We won`t start thinking about Bayern until after the Hertha (Berlin) game on December 17. But we have nothing to lose there ... We are outsiders in almost every game," he said.
