Bonn, 27 July (deutschenews24.de/dpa)- A Tunisian national arrested on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack in Germany cannot be deported because he risks being sentenced to death in the North African country, a German court said Wednesday.
The man was arrested in Frankfurt in February on suspicion of planning an attack on behalf of the Islamic State terrorist group and building a network of supporters in Germany.
German authorities made his deportation conditional on assurances from the Tunisian government that he would not be subjected to inhumane treatment or sentenced to death.
The document sent by Tunisian authorities in response did not meet this condition and it is therefore not possible to deport the suspect, the court in Frankfurt said.
