Bonn, Nov 22 (deutschenews24.de/dpa) -- Germany`s Icelandic handball coach Dagur Sigurdsson is to leave after the world championship in France in January, the German Handball Association (DHB) said Tuesday.
Sigurdsson, 43, is in talks with the Japanese handball association to lead its national team to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
The coach said in a statement by the DHB he was leaving "for personal reasons" and now "we can concentrate with all our energy on the forthcoming world championship."
Sigurdsson took over as Germany coach from Martin Heuberger in August 2014 after coaching Bundesliga side Fuechse Berlin.
He led Germany to the European title in Poland last year and to bronze at the Olympics in Rio this year.
The 24-team world championship is being played at eight venues in France from January 11 to 29.
