German media identify Berlin underground attacker who shocked nat

A man wanted by Berlin police for a brutal attack on a woman in a city underground station that caused an outcry was identified by German media on Friday.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for the man claimed by the tabloid Bild daily to be a 27-year-old Bulgarian.

His whereabouts are unknown, with the Bulgarian authorities saying they don`t believe him to be in Bulgaria.

A video of the assault, which showed a man clutching a bottle kicking a 26-year-old woman down the stairs at the inner city underground station, went viral on the internet. The victim fractured her arm in the fall.

Quoting the Bulgarian newspaper Nova, Bild said the man had lived with his wife and three children near the Bulgarian resort town of Varna.

However, Bild said that he had for the last few months worked on a Berlin building site.

Both the Bulgarian and German police are working together on the case.
