Bonn, 27 July (deutschenews24.de/dpa)- A hotel and a retirement home in the northern German town of Goslar were evacuated and the city centre was closed off on Wednesday amid heavy rainfall and flooding, police said.
In nearby Bad Harzburg, south-east of Hanover, heavy flooding forced authorities to close down the rail system and some roads, a police spokeswoman said, adding that 350 fire fighters were handling the situation and that back-up had been requested.
Flooding has hit several other towns in the state of Lower Saxony including Heinde and Gross Rhueden. The German Weather Service (DWD) has predicted more rainfall for Wednesday.
