Bonn, Dec 02 (GermanNewswire.com/AFP) - Olympian singer Tatjana Hüfner (Blankenburg) has saved the German women sledding at the World Cup in Lake Placid from a disappointment and made a historic victory. The 33-year-old celebrated her 37th success in front of the Canadians Kimberley McRae and Alex Gough and equaled with Rekordsiegerin Sylke Otto.
"It`s something special, I`ve driven myself against Sylke, I know what a great athlete she was, to be able to match her is a great feeling, I`m just proud," said Hüfner.
Hüfner`s permanent rival Natalie Geisenberger (Miesbach), after her victory at the start in Winterberg, caught a full day as a fifth. Julia Taubitz (Oberwiesenthal) became Eight, while Dajana Eitberger (Ilmenau), who had still won the sprint in Winterberg, came to rank nine after a weak first run.
In the first race Hüfner Geisenberger put pressure on a clean performance. This was impressed and she made a serious mistake, which cost her a lot of time. In the second run, the double Olympian Sirochi was about three tenths faster, but could not endanger Hüfner.
